Keep fit, not get fat at Christmas!

  1. Avoid overeating
    You don’t have to eat more than you normally would, just because it’s Christmas. You can still enjoy a quality Christmas meal with all the trimmings, without going for a third helping just because it’s there! Instead of loose-fitting clothes, wear something with a normal waistband so when you reach to undo that top bottom, you know you’ve eaten too much!

  2. Try eating Rudolph
    Reindeer is a lean, healthy meat that is lower in calories, cholesterol and fat than most cuts of beef, pork or lamb! Like fish, it has high levels of health-boosting chemicals, such as omega-3 fatty acids, which protect against breast cancer and heart disease. If the thought of eating Rudolph is a step too far, just consider healthier alternatives to your standard Christmas fodder!

  3. Blast out the Christmas tunes
    Dancing is a fun and easy way to get your heart rate up, get rid of extra body fat and build lean muscle. Download some festive tunes and get Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree or dance to the Jingle Bell Rock!

  4. Pull another cracker
    Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a few cracker jokes! And, experts say that laughing can burn lots of calories by causing your heart rate to rise by 10 to 20 per cent! According to Livestrong, research conducted by Vanderbilt University Medical Center found that laughing for 10 to 15 minutes burns between 10 and 40 calories.

  5. Skip the festive tipples
    Eggnog, mulled wine, creamy liqueurs and hot chocolates… although delicious, many Christmas drinks are packed full of fat, sugar and calories. Try to pick the lower calorie festive celebratory drink options, such as gin and vodka with a diet mixer, or a glass of Prosecco, which has fewer calories than a white wine.
