TOP 5 DIET TIPS FOR A FLAT TUM
Almost a third of Brits say their stomach is the worst part of their body, according to research into the UK’s body hang-ups.
The study discovered that we dislike our tums the most, followed by love handles and bingo wings.
At Fight Fit Combat Fitness classes we can help you work hard on all these troublesome areas but we can also help you out while you’re at home.
Follow our 5 favourite dietary tips for getting a sexy, flat stomach.
1 SNACK BETWEEN 3PM AND 4PM
Nutritionists say that having a protein-based snack, such as low-fat cheese or almonds, between 3pm and 4pm can boost metabolism and balance blood sugar. According to Natasha Turner, naturopathic doctor and author of The Hormone Diet, the lower you keep your blood sugar, the lower you keep your insulin and insulin makes you store fat around your middle. If you eat every three to four hours you will keep your blood sugar even, but as many people tend to go five or six hours between lunch and dinner without eating, a snack between 3pm and 4pm is ideal.
2 SLURP A PROTEIN SHAKE
Protein shakes are not just for bulked-up muscle men – an experiment in The Journal of Nutrition discovered people with diets that included whey protein doubled their fat loss compared with those who ate the same number of calories but didn’t drink any shakes. Protein can help maintain lean tissue while burning fat for fuel. You can order protein shakes via our website – click here to buy protein powder in vanilla, strawberry or chocolate.
3 EAT SOME FAT
Sounds strange, but eating some fat can help you get slim! Experts say monounsaturated fats (MUFAs)– found in olive oil, avocado, sunflower oil, nuts and seeds – can actually help you burn more calories. The British Journal of Nutrition found that a MUFA-rich diet helped people lose small amounts of weight and body fat without calorie intake. Another study says eating a breakfast high in MUFAs could boost calorie burn for five hours after and is particularly successful for people with higher amounts of belly fat.
4 SCOFF SOME BERRIES
If you’re wanting to lose some tummy fat, get stocked up on blue or red berries – whether it’s blackberries, blueberries, cherries, red grapes or acai berries. A study found the chemicals (anthocyanins) responsible for giving these fruits their colour also burn abdominal fat. Berries have also been show to stop single fat cells from getting larger and encourage fat cells to release the adiponectin hormone which helps reduce inflammation, lower blood sugar, and reverse resistance to the appetite-controlling hormone leptin.
5 MUNCH SOME BEANS
Add beans and pulses such as lentils and chickpeas to your diet – they are high in fibre and protein and can help flatten your stomach. Experts say eating beans with every meal will increase your daily soluble fibre intake, which may help promote healthy intestinal bacteria and lower belly-fat.
